Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) – Singapore Armed Forces Chemical Biogeological and Radiological Defence (CBRD) – Singapore Armed Forces
Kok Fu has served the Singapore Armed Forces for 20 years. During his tenure, Kok Fu has held command, staff and instructional portfolios in both the EOD unit and Chemical Biological and Radiological Defence unit. As a member of the command team in the EOD unit, he is responsible for mentoring, developing and managing performance of EOD operators in the unit. He was also responsible for conducting annual currency assessments of the EOD operator’s skill qualification level and qualifying them for their next higher level of skill qualifications. As part of the EOD unit’s capability development framework, Kok Fu worked with Engineers from the Defence Science Technology Agency (DSTA) to develop technical requirements, conduct trials, conduct technical evaluations and operationalizing new equipment.
He was also often involved in conducting trend analysing in terrorism and IED attacks globally, compile relevant data, conduct terrain studies and solutions for operational gaps through market survey of advance technology equipment. He also was responsible for planning and development of new doctrines and SOPs to keep abreast of the ever-emerging terrorist threats. Cardinal appointments that he had helmed were: Regimental Sergeant Major of the EOD Battalion, Intelligence and Research officer (EOD), Company Sergeant Major of a CBRD Company and EOD Team leader.
Kok Fu’s operational experiences over the years includes multiple EOD related missions in the fields of Disposal of Explosive Ordnance Remnants of war (ERW), responding to Improvised Explosives Devices incidents, Post blast Investigation and planning and execution of preventive search operations for national level events (Trump-kim summit, ASEAN summit 18, NDP, F1 grand prix) which includes working and coordinating with multi agencies from across SAF and the home team agencies.
Kok Fu was also deployed to Afghanistan, Uruzgan as a Counter-Improvised Explosives (C-IED) Military Instructional Trainer in 2012 as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to train Afghanistan National Police and Afghanistan Army forces in Counter IED skills. He was also part of the team that developed and implemented long-term solutions for Afghan forces in Regional Command (South) to conduct independent operations and training in preparation for the withdrawal of ISAF troops in Afghanistan.
Apart from the training that Kok Fu has from the SAF, he had also received overseas training and qualifications such as: Explosive Ordnance Disposal Course – United States Naval School EOD, Post Blast Investigation – US Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Advance Improvised Explosive Devices and Terrorist Activities – International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigations (IABTI) Canada.
